Is TEMU Legit? A Shopper’s Honest Review and What You Need to Know Before Buying

I kept seeing TEMU everywhere – on TikTok, Instagram, and even in YouTube ads. People were showing off huge hauls of random things they bought for super cheap.

At first, I thought it was just another sketchy shopping app. But the prices were wild – $1 phone cases? Cute earrings for under $3? I had to find out for myself if it was legit or just another waste of time and money.

So I placed an order. Here’s everything I learned.

First Things First: What Even Is TEMU?

TEMU is a shopping app and website where you can buy pretty much anything – home stuff, gadgets, clothes, accessories, beauty products, even pet toys.

It reminds me of a mix between Amazon, Wish, and Shein. But cheaper. And yes, I really mean cheaper.

I didn’t go crazy at first. I spent a little under $15 just to see what I’d get. Here’s what I ordered:

  • A phone stand – $1.89
  • A 5-pack of pastel scrunchies – $1.78
  • Gold-plated hoop earrings – $2.25
  • A mini bag sealer – $2.40
  • Silicone kitchen spatula – $1.35
  • A foldable grocery bag with mushrooms on it – $2.90

Shipping was free, which surprised me.

So… Did My Order Even Arrive?

Yes! It took about 11 days to get to me. Not fast like Amazon Prime, but I wasn’t expecting it to be. The package came in a basic orange mailer, and each item was packed in its own little plastic pouch.

Nothing was broken. Nothing was missing. That alone made me breathe a little easier.

What About Quality?

Honestly? Better than I expected.

  • The phone stand was small but sturdy. I used it to watch Netflix while cooking.
  • The spatula? Flexible, easy to clean, and it hasn’t melted on my nonstick pan.
  • The earrings were super cute. I’ve worn them three times already. No green ears!
  • The bag sealer actually works. I tried it on a bag of pretzels, and it sealed right up.
  • The grocery tote folds into a pouch and clips to my keychain. I’ve already used it at Trader Joe’s.

Not everything felt luxurious, but for the price, I was happy. And nothing felt like it was about to fall apart.

Is TEMU Safe?

From my experience? Yes.

I used PayPal to check out, which gave me some peace of mind. The site uses HTTPS, so your info is encrypted. And they do have a return and refund system if something doesn’t arrive or isn’t right.

I haven’t needed to use customer support yet, but I’ve seen other users on Reddit mention that TEMU refunded them easily when items didn’t arrive.

The Downsides (Because There Are a Few)

Let’s be real – it’s not perfect.

  • Shipping is slow. If you’re in a rush, this app isn’t for you.
  • Clothing sizes can be weird. I didn’t order clothes this time, but I’ve read enough reviews to know it’s hit or miss.
  • Not everything will be amazing. You’ll find some stuff that’s just okay. And you might find one or two things that look different in person.

Also, returning things isn’t always simple. If something costs $2, it’s probably not worth the effort to ship it back overseas.

Who Would Like TEMU?

If you like online treasure hunts, small surprises, and saving money, you’ll probably enjoy it.

I can see TEMU being super useful for:

  • Teachers needing supplies
  • Parents shopping on a budget
  • Students in dorms
  • Anyone buying small gifts
  • People like me who love random kitchen gadgets and cute stuff

But if you expect fast delivery or super high-end quality, this probably won’t be your favorite app.

Final Thoughts: Would I Order Again?

Yep. I already have.

I placed a second order the week after my first one came. This time I got some silicone sink organizers and a portable lint remover. Still under $10. Still free shipping.

I think the key is going in with the right expectations.

TEMU isn’t meant to replace Amazon or Target. But if you treat it like a digital dollar store with fun finds and random goodies, it’s actually kind of great.

Just read reviews, look at the photos, and don’t spend more than you’re willing to risk.

Try TEMU if you’re curious – but don’t blame me if your cart fills up fast.
